as most of you know……
last week was my 29th birthday.
yes, last year in the “20′s”…….next year will be the BIG 3-0…..
and i’m not exactly sure how i feel about it……
there were moments this week, where i felt
old,
uncool,
tired,
old,
mature,
experienced,
assured,
and did i mention,
OLD.
so i’ve decided to stop allowing the negative connotations get me down and to EMBRACE the great things about getting older!
i’ve decided to stop COUNTING the years as they tick away (much more quickly as you get order, may i say) and start CELEBRATING each year to its fullest.
i’ve decided to make a list of 30 Things I Want to Do Before I Turn 30:
1. Run a 5K
2. Ride on a roller coaster (or 10)
4. Take a photography class
5. Go see So You Think You Can Dance Live!’ (did this on saturday night!)
holy cow, this was so fun! thanks to jess and amy for going along!
6. Read through the entire bible
7. Get a massage (and not feel guilty about it)
9. Plan a big birthday party for my 3 year old
10. Sew an entire outfit
11. Paint a picture on canvas
12. Send handwritten letters to my grandparents
13. Learn how to really swim
14. Grow the blog to at least double the readers we have now (200ish)
15. Go away with my husband for our 5th anniversary
16. Paint a back splash in the kitchen
17. Redo my (and the kids’) bathrooms
18. Teach Vacation Bible School
20. Watch a play or musical
21. Eat in a fancy restaurant (Mastro’s in Chicago)
22. Throw a dinner party with friends
23. Go to a winery
24. Do a mini triathlon
26. Participate in a couple’s bible study
27. Buy an old piece of furniture and refinish it
28. Learn how to can food
29. Go on an all-girls weekend
30. Eat mini donuts at the Elkhart County Fair
i feel good about this list and think that all of these things are realistic goals.
you can be 29, 9, or 79—let’s celebrate this next year with joy, love for others, and encouragement to ourselves!
what do you want to do between your next two birthdays?
if you write (or wrote) a post about this, come back and link up so we can celebrate along with you!

I’m working on my list right now – I’ve been thinking of doing one of these for awhile – you just gave me the push to get started1
i can’t wait to see what your list looks like!
if i could run 5K before I die that would be nice…. i love your list ! Good Luck!
yeah, me too!
Great list! The thirties aren’t so bad. I look at it like the beginning of a wonderful new chapter of life. =)
i know you’re right…..it just takes some internal pep talk to get me thinking that way
I love that you made a list!!! Its such a great idea! Will you photograph them as you tick them off?!? {I feel like that would be fun to follow!}
that’s my plan–what would be on your list?
I was surprised and happy by #8!!! I actually changed my FB picture over the weekend to a picture in memory of the days when I (I mean *WE*) used to be able to go. So many fun memories!!
i’m determined to go this year, but we will be staying in a cabin down where jon’s parent’s camper is. i still consider that roughing it
great idea! love your list and happy (late) birthday!!
I am totally going to jump on board with this! Should I use your “30 before 30″ button on my blog? I’m pretty sure I’m going to steal your “ongoing series” idea – but I want to give you the credit for this one! Let me know
