photo friday: a guest post & a link party!

happy photo friday, friends!
today, we have a privilege of hearing a bit about macro photography from a new-found blogging friend of mine, Gloria.
don’t forget to link up your photos at the end of the post and come back tomorrow for my HUGE group giveaway!

Hi! I’m Gloria–a photographer, blogger, artist and designer. I would love it if you could drop by my blog, Discover Captivating Photography !  I am also an artist, so you can check out my drawings here:  www.newenglandgraphite-art.blogspot.com

Macro photography is for those of us who like detail and design. There are so many different parts of God’s beautiful creation that can’t be seen easily with the human eye, and I’m always amazed at how pictures such as this turn out:

(Pretty amazing, how God designs tiny creatures, eh? )

Many man-made productions offer creative designs up close, as well as natural designs.  Here are some examples of man-made materials that lend themselves well to macro-photographing:

Rings
Clothing
Shoes
Jewelry
Bicycles
Books or other type-written paper
Homemade food (in process of making and/or result)
Crafting utensils (paint brushes, pencils)
Furniture

I must admit, it took me a particularly long time to think of this small list of ideas, because I personally like nature photography better and it has more of a variety of objects.

Some DSLR s allow you to get so close to an object that your lens is actually touching it, while many point-and-shoots only focus properly while farther away. If you are a “detail freak” like me, loving to get as close as possible, you might want to try macro photography to find the little things in life.
In my mind, “macro photography” really means “detailed photography”. Your object doesn’t need to be super close to be perfectly detailed. In some photos, like the ones below, my camera was much more than ¼ of an inch away, but the photo is still very detailed. Take a look:

Try and go out soon, and see what details you can find up close with your camera!

  6. I have a macro lense on my wish list. Its definitely the next thing I want to purchase, but I’m still unsure if I want to stick with my DSLR or upgrade to a pro lense. Once I decide I’m definitely going for the macro though!

Its nice to see the macro shots, I love it too however the cameras we have can only go as close as 0.5 ft which is not close enough for certain shots.
