things unplanned.

sometimes things just don’t go like you plan them.

heck, actually much of the time things don’t go as planned.

sometimes, you get so excited to see a long-distance real life and blogging friend for the first time in 3 years,

and then without warning your daughter throws up all over you (and doesn’t even spare the space between your toes).

sometimes, your house sells too quickly (or maybe not quickly enough).

 sometimes, your spouse loses his patience.

no, not this cute man?!

sometimes, your friends disappoint you.

sometimes, your daughter can’t get rid of her 103.5 temperature for days.

sometimes, your son throws countless tantrums.

sometimes, your plans come undone and things don’t go as you HOPED they would….

and then you realize, i realize, that putting my HOPE & JOY in any of these things is futile and will more often than not, lead to disappointment.

so, i’m reminded today, coming off of a weekend that was full of those “sometimes,” that…

“My HOPE is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteous;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.”

–lyrics from the hymn “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less” by Edward Mote

and ps.  i love them all and always will.

  1. I have always heard that if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans. And it’s so true!

  2. Ohh how I know this well. Plans being made. And totally completely not working out!!!! How does that happen?! It can be so frustrating! But, i’ve learned, it is so much better to just make the best of it and learn to laugh rather than stress out. (I tend to to do the latter more though :( ( ) I hope everything begins to fall back in place soon for you!

  3. Lovely post. I will be singing that hymn all day now. It is one of my favorites.

  4. I struggle with dwelling on the disappointments, especially when I am dealing with a season of depression. I am really trying to work on refocusing my perspective and changing my attitude, but sometimes it seems impossible. Great post!

  5. Ha Ha Ha….oh Andi. I’m sorry things didn’t go as planned on Saturday, but it was great seeing you guys all the same. I can’t believe how much the kiddos have grown – such cuties. Hopefully 3 years won’t pass by again before we see you again!
