“Hi y’all! My  name is Amanda and I’m the creative mind behind Royal Daughter Designs. This is me:

.
I’m a country girl, farming and ranching on 8 beautiful Texas acres. My husband, Mr. E., is a minister and a seminary professor and  I’m a small business owner and graduate student. I’m a has-been foster moma self-proclaimed animal lover, laundry procrastinator, sweet tea junkie, and high-heel hater.

I recently recorded a vlog about popularity in the blogging community, blog envy, and using our power for good.Power – that’s something that a lot of us don’t realize we have. Another word for it is influence. And as bloggers, we have a lot of influence. I mean, think about it! We influence what people buy, where they shop, what they do, and what they eat! We influence a pretty good part of a person’s day. That’s pretty powerful.

Unfortunately many bloggers don’t understand their own power, and they use it negatively. Even worse, so many bloggers don’t realize their position as a leader in the blogging community. Somehow we hone in on the fact that we have “followers” (sometimes known as readers or subscribers), but never take time to think about ourselves as being a leader. We have followers and we get wrapped up in increasing the number of followers we have, all the while never paying attention to what kind of leader we are to our followers.

So let me encourage you to take time to think about yourself as a leader:

  • do you know what journey you’re leading your followers on?
  • have you embraced your role as a leader in the blogging community?
  • do you take time to make yourself a better leader, rather than trying to get more followers?
  • do you use your power of influence for good, rather than for bad?
I hope you’ll think about these things and maybe view yourself a little differently. If you have the time, I’d love for you to watch my vlog – I go into quite a bit more detail about embracing our roles as leaders!
Thank you, Andi, for letting me have some time to share what’s been on my heart here on your blog! Thanks for your great hospitality!

This is so great, Amanda. “If you have a follower, you are a leader.” I love that! Thanks for being a great leader!

  4. I love this post and the vlog! I try to keep my blog positive, uplifting and beneficial. Those are also the traits I look for in blogs that I read. Sometimes, it’s hard, especially when I get wrapped up in numbers, which can make me doubt myself and the worth of my blog.

But, I agree 100% that it’s not about comparisons and emulations. It’s about being myself!

(Thanks for the reminder, though. I can use it now and then!)

  5. Thanks Emily – I think keeping our blogs “positive” is a great goal to have! One that I definitely try to keep myself!

  9. Thanks for reminding us about how influential we can be. Sometimes that slips my mind as I tat-tat away on the keyboard posting my posts and commenting around the blogosphere.
