you’ve probably seen a lot of people choosing one word as their focus for the new year instead of a list of resolutions. i’m not much of a resolutions girl, myself, but this word seems to be choosing me.
for me, the word “Content” keeps coming up everywhere i look. i’m pretty sure that’s what they mean when they say, “I prayed about my Word for the Year and the Lord said…(blank).”
case and point:
i got the book The Resolution for Women from my inlaws for Christmas. it is really good and the whole first section is all about being content with where you are and with what you have—”don’t wish this life season away” (an unfortunate talent of mine). it’s speaking to my heart and i know that’s for a reason.
our pastor’s sermon last sunday really stuck out to me was when he said “the main way we get contentment is through pain—it’s then when we can really appreciate all that we have been blessed with.” ouch. i definitely don’t like the sound of that. am i sure i want this to be my word?
in my everyday life and even bloglife, i ‘m finding myself being more aware of my own discontentment and the ugliness of my heart in this area. my prayer is that the Lord will do a work in me that will lead to contentment in all areas of my life.
i know i have so many blessings and still feel like i can’t feel grateful enough for them. does that make sense? i feel guilty and trapped in thoughts about not enjoying every moment with my kids, not using our finances perfectly, or wasting precious minutes of my short life. i know the Lord has grace for me in this area and wants to help me move toward a more intentional contentment—a heart change. that’s what i’m seeking.
i’m sure this year will be one of highs and lows, pain and joy, but through it all i’m making a commitment to be CONTENT and thankful in all circumstances.

Hey Andi! Thanks for such a real post. I know exactly what you mean about feeling guilty about not enjoying every minute with kiddos. Some moments just aren’t enjoyable! I so want to be content and your writing is a great challenge and inspiration for me.

Thanks for hosting the link-up! I can relate to so much of what you are saying about contentment. Looking forward to hearing more about what you learn! Also love what you say about the word choosing you. So true of life sometimes.
That is great word and well chosen path for 2013!
Thanks for hosting. I love the variety of stories and photos.
i love your word. and we have all been there. so desperately wanting to be one way, but knowing inside that we are not… i hate when i see my own selfishness or complaints or inability to be taught…but at the same time i love it, because at least when we recognize it, God is able to work in us…
Content is SUCH a great word. . . and sometimes it is so hard to be content!
Found you via Casey Wiegand!
Hey Andi! Just found you via Ashley Beaudin who runs Overcome The Lie. At first, I thought, “Gosh, contentment feels so calm and unmoving; I wouldn’t want to be content.” But in fact, to be content means you’ve pushed through all the muck and worry and sorrow and shame and just gotten down to how you want to be and feel and live and act and BAM, you’re going to be okay and unwanting. It’s a rock solid goal, if you ask me, one that I don’t think I’m ready for, but glad you’ve decided to make 2013 your year for that.
